Joachim Taiber

Joachim Taiber is an Advanced Research Fellow at the Centre for Sectoral Economic Performance (CSEP) at Imperial College London, where he leads automotive affairs and supports research focused on the future of mobility. Born and raised in Germany, he earned a Ph.D. in Technical Sciences from ETH Zurich after studying Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science. His career has spanned academia, industry, and international collaboration, beginning with a software startup in Zurich before joining BMW Group, where he contributed to automotive engineering initiatives in Germany and the United States. While helping establish BMW's automotive engineering campus in South Carolina, he also served as a Research Professor at Clemson University and led the development of the International Transportation Innovation Center (ITIC), a proving ground for connected, automated, and electrified vehicles. As Managing Director, he founded the International Alliance for Mobility Testing and Standardization (IAMTS), strengthening global collaboration in mobility testing and standards. Since joining Imperial College London as a Visiting Professor in 2024 before becoming an Advanced Research Fellow, Joachim has focused on advancing research and partnerships that support innovation in the UK automotive sector. Most recently, he completed the Automotive Sector Study, exploring the UK's role in shaping the future of mobility. Passionate about fostering collaboration between academia and industry, he is motivated by projects that deliver meaningful societal impact, drawing continued inspiration from The Feynman Lectures on Physics.
