Johannes Koehler

Dr Johannes Köhler is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London, where he leads the Autonomous Systems Group. His research focuses on the control of autonomous systems, bridging the gap between rigorous theoretical guarantees and real-world applications. Methodologically, his work centres on model predictive control, learning-based methods, and in general frameworks combining optimization and predictions for optimal decision-making under uncertainty. Application areas include wheeled robots, manipulator, aerial robots, soft robots, and medical robots.

Dr Köhler joined Imperial College London in 2025 after completing a postdoctoral appointment at ETH Zurich. He received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Stuttgart in 2021. His major awards include the European Systems & Control PhD Thesis Award (2021), the IEEE CSS George S. Axelby Outstanding Paper Award (2022), and the Journal of Process Control Paper Award (2023).
